I’m pretty sure the picture to the left will send shivers down many spines. But for me it brings back nothing but sweet memories. That’s because cage diving with great white sharks and observing these apex predators from a boat are amongst the best things I have ever done  in my life. The behaviour you see in the photograph is not a sign of agression. Since sharks have no hands and a curious nature, they have to test objects (are they edible or not being one of the more important questions) in the water with their impressive jaws. The difference between a ‘test bite’ and a full fledged attack is however very significant… The photo was made by Harry Stone, a very talented and likeable wildlife photographer from England who currently resides in South Africa’s Western Cape.
